The Sustainability Lifetime Achievement Award

Why have we won this Vogue award?

Empowering people and the planet and reducing our environmental impact are what The Body Shop is all about, and our Avocado Body Butter is a great example of this. Made with sustainably sourced Hass avocado oil and Community Fair Trade shea butter, this new, creamy vegan concoction helps nourish dry skin with 96-hour moisture. And the sustainability doesn’t stop there. Our sleek, new look packaging is now fully recyclable and made with aluminium lids and 100% recycled plastic, including Community Fair Trade recycled plastic collected off the streets of Bengaluru, India, through The Body Shop’s trade partnership with Plastics for Change.

Best CBD Product: CBD Restoring Facial Oil

The Body Shop CBD skincare collection enters new territory to ease discomfort from dryness and help revive the appearance of lost luminosity, so you can relax when your skin’s being a buzzkill. Dial back to the basics with this blend of natural essential oils, infused with patchouli extract, CBD and hemp seed oils sustainably sourced in France. Our CBD is 100% natural and sourced from hemp plants, a brand favourite since the early nineties.

BEST SUSTAINABLE BRAND

Our founder Anita Roddick pioneered the philosophy that businesses can be a force for good, and this belief is still The Body Shop’s driving force. Today we articulate this as “fighting for a fairer and more beautiful world”. In 2019, we became a B Corp, joining a community of companies working to drive change in our society by working to preserve our planet and help societies to flourish. It’s in The Body Shop’s DNA.

Our partnership with Plastics For Change empowers marginalised communities in India who clean waste plastics from the streets. Through our partnership, we pay these communities a fair price for the materials and recycle 12.2 million PET bottles back into our packaging, diverting 222k kilograms of plastic from oceans and landfill. We are excited to be scaling up our use of recycled plastics across more of our product categories, including skincare.

Our mission to become a more sustainable brand is a restless journey of innovation where we strive to do better for people and the planet, and this award would not be possible without the ongoing hard work of our sustainable sourcing team at The Body Shop, among many others.

Best Body Wash: Hemp Hydrating and Protecting Shower Oil

Our Hemp Hydrating and Protecting Shower Oil contains 10% pure Hemp Seed Oil that transforms into a rich lather to quench ultra-dry skin without stripping or drying. It helps protect skin's natural moisture barrier, and skin hydration is boosted by a third after use.

Hemp is a big deal these days, but we’ve been harvesting this hardworking hydrator since 1992 – our founder, Dame Anita Roddick, was a big fan of its sustainability and efficacy. Hemp is kind of a miracle crop. It’s grown for fibres, seeds and flowers that are used for everything from clothing and food to medicine and – of course – moisturisers.
