Introducing our youth collective

WE’RE BRINGING YOUNG PEOPLE INTO OUR BOARDROOM

The world is in crisis and we think young people are part of the solution. Over 40% of the world’s population is under 25, but only 2.8% of parliamentarians globally are under 30*. So where are young people’s voices in the major decisions being made in politics, business or society today? Young people will inherit the consequences of today’s decisions, yet they are silenced in public life.

In 2020, half the global workforce were millennials but the average age of those on FTSE 150 boards was nearly 60*. We don’t think this is right. Young people are creative, open-minded and full of the right questions. We know they’ve got the imagination, energy and grit to stick up for what’s right.

Read on to discover how we, as a company, are backing young people. We see you. We want to hear you.

Youth Panel

IT’S TIME TO START LISTENING

We are one of the largest B Corps in the world, and part of being a B Corp means using our business as a force for good. This means balancing people, profit and planet to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

At The Body Shop, we’ve always fought to create a business that is more sustainable for future generations; the people who will inherit it. If we want to change the world and the impact we have on it, we need to let young people have a say on the issues that matter to them. So, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

This year we want to give young people a space to have their voices heard by the decision makers in our business. We are bringing young people into our boardroom and launching a Youth Collective within The Body Shop.

HOW WILL IT WORK?

The Youth Collective will be made up of a group of under 30s from within The Body Shop and other B Corp organisations, who The Body Shop leadership team will consult on decisions concerning the business. This will make sure that we are amplifying young people’s voices within our business, while also pushing us to look at the way we do things in a new way.
