WHY USE SHEA BUTTER IN DIY BEAUTY RECIPES?

Ghanaian women have used shea butter to intensely nourish dry skin and hair for centuries. We enrich over 250 of our products with Community Trade shea butter sustainably sourced from The Tungteiya Women’s Association in northern Ghana. 640 women handcraft 390 tons of shea butter for us every year using an 18-stage process passed from mother to daughter for generations. Each woman takes two days to expertly produce our shea in 25kg batches using traditional techniques and zero chemicals, to ensure the highest quality.

Our new, multi-purpose Shea Butter is 100% natural and 100% vegan. Enriched with handcrafted Community Trade shea butter, it has a rich texture that melts on skin and intensely nourishes dry body, face, lips and hair. After application, skin feels softer, more supple and smoother. It’s perfect for soothing dry, sensitive skin and feelings of tightness and itchiness. You can also use it to nourish dry hair and to style curls.

SHEA BUTTER DIY BEAUTY RECIPES & TIPS

RECIPE #1: 2 IN 1 HOMEMADE LIP BALM AND SCRUB

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
• Sugar
• Soft toothbrush or Facial Brush

METHOD
With a soft toothbrush or our Facial Brush, gently exfoliate your lips (lip brushing is just like body brushing). Don’t forget to brush around your lip line too.

Once you’ve done this, apply the Shea Butter onto your lips and massage in using circular motions. Repeat when needed. It’s perfect for dry skin.

You can also exfoliate your lips by mixing one teaspoon of sugar with one teaspoon of Shea Butter until it becomes a paste. Again, gently exfoliate the lips and lip line. When you’ve finished exfoliating, apply pure Shea Butter all over lips

RECIPE #2: HOMEMADE DRY HAIR OVERNIGHT TREATMENT & HAIR STYLING RITUAL

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
Coconut Oil Brilliantly Nourishing Pre-Shampoo Hair Oil

METHOD
Mix one part Shea Butter with three parts of our Coconut Oil Brilliantly Nourishing Pre-Shampoo Hair Oil. Apply as a daily protecting and styling treatment or as an overnight treatment.

For the night treatment, simply massage a small amount of this mixture onto your whole head or just onto split ends. Wrap your hair in a towel or put on a shower cap and wear overnight, for hair that feels soft and nourished.

HAIR STYLING METHOD
Using the same recipe as the hair treatment, apply to dry, very dry and curly hair to style as you wish.

RECIPE #3: HOMEMADE BUBBLING BATH MELT

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
British Rose Petal-Soft Bath Foam
• Silicone kitchen tray or ice cube tray

Before you start, warm up the Shea Butter by holding the pouch between your hands and massaging for one minute. This makes the butter easier to work with.

Next, fill a single mould of a silicone kitchen tray or an ice cube tray with 3/4 of our British Rose Petal-Soft Bath Foam and 1/4 of new Shea Butter right in the centre. Stir your mixture well. Finally, place the tray in the freezer overnight. Don’t forget to mark your mould with a note to ensure it’s not reused for food or ice cubes later!

Once ready, simply remove a cube from the tray, drop into your bath and work with your hand to release all the lovely bubbles and butter. Depending on the size of your mould, add 1-2 cubes into your bath. The combination of the bath foam and our Shea Butter transforms your bath into a rich, comforting, bubbly experience, perfect to help your skin feel soft. Sit back and enjoy!

Please note, this recipe is for single use. Do not store formula for future use.

You can also replace the above bath cleansers in your bath melt with Olive Shower Gel, Almond Milk & Honey Shower Cream or Tea Tree Body Wash.

Please note, the bath melt recipe with shower cleansers is for adults only.

RECIPE #4: DRY HEEL TREATMENT

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
• Body scrub

METHOD
Soak your feet in warm water for 5-10 minutes. Next, gently exfoliate them with any of our body scrubs. Towel dry and apply Shea Butter generously. Gently massage all over your feet, including heels and cuticles. Cover and leave on overnight.

RECIPE #5: HOMEMADE SHOWER CREAM FOR DRY SKIN

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
Almond Milk & Honey Shower Cream or Tea Tree Body Wash

METHOD
Mix three parts shower cleanser with one part Shea Butter in your palms. I recommend our Olive Shower Gel, or Almond Milk & Honey Shower Cream.

For an indulgent experience, try British Rose Petal-Soft Bath Foam.

TOP TIP 1: HAND TREATMENT

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
• Moisture Gloves

METHOD
After washing or exfoliating your hands, massage all over with a small amount of Shea Butter. Next, put on a pair of our Moisture Gloves. For very dry and sensitive hands, keep the gloves on overnight. If you can’t wait, put rubber gloves on over your Moisture Gloves and leave on for 10-20 minutes.

Afterwards, your hands will feel soft and intensely nourished.

TOP TIP 2: SHOWER BODY EXFOLIATOR

WHAT DO I NEED?
• New Shea Butter
• Bath Gloves

METHOD
Before cleansing, warm and soften up Shea Butter by massaging the pouch in your hands for one minute. Next, put one teaspoon of Shea Butter on the inside of our Bath Gloves. While showering, massage all over your body, especially elbows, knees, heels and cuticles.

Finish your shower by cleansing and rinsing your skin. I recommend our Almond Milk & Honey Shower Cream, Olive Shower Gel or Tea Tree Body Wash.

Exfoliating the skin helps to remove dead skin cells and allows the Shea Butter to help nourish the revealed skin. For best results, use 2-5 times per week.

TOP TIP 3: DAY & NIGHT FACE CREAM
Use the new Shea Butter on dry areas of the face, especially in the colder months.

TOP TIP 4: BODY CARE
This is ideal after a bath or shower and before bedtime. Apply the new Shea Butter all over your body, especially on dry areas like heels, elbows and cuticles.
