When it comes to looking after and protecting the skin on your face, it’s best to go back to basics. From regular cleansing to get rid of bacteria and dead skin to applying a daily moisturiser for a smoother-looking appearance, we’ve got the essentials to ensure you try only the best men’s skin care routines.
Cleansing your face every morning and night with warm water and using a face wash is key to removing excess oils and any dirt that builds up on your skin. Be sure to use a face wash on a Monday morning to clean the weekend off your face.
Our energising Guarana & Coffee Energising Cleanser for Men is enriched with Brazilian guarana, Ethiopian green coffee and Community Trade organic aloe vera. The gel forms into a light foamy lather which leaves your skin feeling cleansed, energised and invigorated.
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and leaves your face feeling softer and smoother, while making it appear brighter and more radiant. We recommend using an exfoliator such as our Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub used daily to gently buff the skin surface, removing impurities and dead skin cells, or our Vitamin C Microdermabrasion for brighter, more radiant looking skin – using around twice a week is ideal.
Whether you are prone to dry skin or are just regularly exposed to environmental factors that can leave your skin looking parched, using a moisturiser should be part of your regular skincare routine.
A lightweight yet revitalising product like our Guarana and Coffee Energising Moisturiser For Men is ideal for daily use as it quenches your skin for 24 hour moisturisation, while our protective Seaweed Oil-Control Lotion SPF15 will balance the oils in your skin. Our Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF50 is our strongest multi protection moisturiser. It helps protect your skin against multiple factors in the environment that can cause damage including UVA & UVB rays and includes red algae and vitamin C.
The skin around your eyes can be extremely delicate and particularly prone to creasing as you get older. Try using a hydrating eye cream like our Oils of Life™ Eye Cream Gel every morning and night to revitalise your eye contour and visibly smooth the appearance of fine lines.
Our Drops of Youth™ Eye Concentrate enriched with plant stem cells is also a great option that helps smooth the appearance of fine lines. The massage action also helps to reduce bags and fatigue under the eyes.
Once you’ve perfected a good routine with our men’s facial products, you’ll be ready to face the day ahead. Now it’s time to think about your shaving habits. Knowing the basics of a good shave is important, and we can help make it an effortless and painless process if you follow these three simple steps:
Washing your face with a gentle cleanser like our Men’s Maca Root Face Wash before you shave isn’t just to make it look and smell nice. It also helps your pores appear less visible after use and washes away any grime or oil without leaving your skin feeling tight and dry..
Use shaving cream. Shaving can be tough on your skin, especially if you don’t use something to help lubricate and protect it from the sharp blades of your razor. For a close but comfortable shave, you should use plenty of shaving cream such as our luxurious softening Maca Root & Aloe Softening Shaving Cream for Men to leave your skin feeling soft and moisturised. Apply it with our cruelty-free shaving brush and remember to only use light strokes with your razor to avoid unnecessarily cutting yourself.
If you have short, fine hair and want to add some volume and texture, we recommend using a more lightweight wax or gel, like our Wheatgrass Fixing Gel . You should aim to avoid heavier products like creams and non-water-based pomades as they could weigh down your hair instead of lifting it up.
When it comes to applying your chosen styling product, you should try to avoid just slapping it straight onto your hair and hope for the best. Instead, place a small amount in your palm and rub your hands together before gradually applying it.
If your hair is naturally thick already, you can still use a wax to style it and keep it in check. If it’s curly too, we recommend using a pomade or balm, like our Coconut Oil Hair Shine that should help to avoid hairs clumping together.
For the best results, always read the labels on products for advice on applying them or ask your barber for some styling advice next time you go in for a cut.
When it comes to looking after your hair, you should aim to treat it with the same love and attention as your skin. Try to wash it every two to three days or as required with a product like our subtly fragranced White Musk® For Men Hair & Body Wash or our fresh Kistna Hair & Body Wash to cleanse and refresh.
For a scalp that feels healthier and rebalanced use our Ginger Shampoo and Ginger Scalp Care Conditioner to help your hair and scalp feel moisturised. Our more lightweight Fuji Green Tea™ Refreshingly Hydrating Conditioner helps hair and scalp feel refreshed.
Styling men’s hair
Achieving a smart, polished look with your hair is easy with the right products. Whether you have thinner hair that could do with a little more volume or you have unruly locks that desperately need taming, we’ve got plenty of options to choose from at The Body Shop.
Looking after the skin on the rest of your body is just as important as keeping your face and hair squeaky clean and well groomed. From soothing dry skin with one of our body lotions for men to fending off underarm odour with an energising scented deodorant, there are plenty of ways to easily and effectively take care of your body.
Keep hydrated. Drinking plenty of fluids every day is the first step to healthier-looking skin, as a lack of moisture inside your body usually means they’ll be lack of it outside too. Try to avoid drinking too many strongly caffeinated drinks or sugary soft drinks and opt for plenty of water instead.
Shower regularly. This should go without saying. Keeping your body clean with regular showers or baths, especially after exercising, is the best way to look after your skin. Lather up and leave your skin soft and subtly scented with our range of men’s body care soaps and shower gels.
Always moisturise. Just like the skin on your face, your body can also do with being nurtured every so often with a rich or revitalising moisturiser. Our body lotions and body creams for men are all formulated with ingredients to help soothe your skin and have subtly masculine scents like White Musk® For Men and Olive . When you don’t have time to moisturise opt for a Body Yogurt, like our Almond Milk Body Yogurt – you can apply to damp skin straight after showering, and your skin will feel smoother and never sticky. You’ll also enjoy up to 48 hours of moisture.
Exfoliate occasionally. Getting rid of dead skin and tougher grime on your body can be so easy if you remember to regularly exfoliate. Our Spa of the World™ Mediterranean Sea Salt Scrub is infused with sea salt to help revitalise and invigorate your skin and can be gently used to cleanse the whole body. Alternatively, try massaging your usual shower gel with one of our handcrafted Hemp Body Mitts to help stimulate skin microcirculation, leaving it feeling softer and smoother.
Protect yourself. Your skin can be harmed so easily by the environment. The sun in particular can do quite a bit of damage which is why you should always protect yourself from its rays if you spend large amounts of time outdoors through work or you’re going on holiday to warmer climes. Make sure you are well protected on any areas of skin exposed to the sun.
Stay fresh. After you’ve showered, remember to use deodorant to protect yourself from underarm odour. At The Body Shop, we have a choice of deodorants to choose from to suit your individual needs including our quick-drying White Musk® Sport Deodorant, our spicy scented and long-lasting Activist™ Anti-Perspirant and our For Men Maca Root Deodorant Stick.
Smell good. Once you’re done with your grooming routine, don’t forget to spray on your favourite aftershave or splash on a bit of cologne. Opt for something like an aftershave balm that helps soften the skin while leaving it with a fresh, woody fragrance or dab on some eau de toilette on your wrists and chest. Remember, a little goes a long way with cologne so apply sparingly.
