HOW TO MINIMISE THE APPEARANCE OF PORES


WHAT ARE PORES?

Pores are tiny openings in the skin where hair follicles grow. They serve an important function of helping balance the skin's sebum (oil), and the average adult has around five million pores. Pores are completely normal and natural, and most are extremely small and difficult to see with the naked eye (so put away that magnifying mirror!) Sometimes, pores can appear enlarged as a result of genetics, pollution or debris, oily skin, make-up and sun damage. A good skincare routine can help reduce the visibility of pores

5 TIPS FOR MINIMISING PORES

TIP 1. REMOVE DEAD SKIN

Regular exfoliation prevents dead skin from building up and blocking your pores. You can exfoliate using a scrub or liquid peel, such as our Drops of Youth™ Youth Liquid Peel or Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel, which are gentle enough for regular use and leave skin feeling smoother.

TIP 2. REMOVE YOUR MAKE-UP BEFORE BED

We all do it, and we all know it's bad – sleeping in your make-up can block your pores and lead to blackheads. Get yourself a good cleanser (try our Camomile Cleansing Butter) and get into the habit of pre-bedtime pampering.

TIP 3. REDUCE EXCESS OIL

Particularly for those of you with oily skin, it's important cleanse your skin regularly and properly. Excess oil can make pores appear larger, so try our Tea Tree range to keep oil at bay.

TIP 4. REMOVE POLLUTION

Throughout the day, debris such as pollution can collect on your skin and block pores and prevent skin from breathing – this can cause premature skin ageing. TIP 5. PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM THE SUN

We love a bit of bronzing, but not at the expense of your skin. Sun exposure is damaging, period. It can cause skin to thicken or discolour, making your pores appear larger. Using a high, daily SPF like our Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF 50 can help prevent this – so don't skip it.

SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR MINIMISING PORES

STEP 1. CLEANSE

Cleanse morning and night. If you have dry skin, try a gentle cream cleanser from our Vitamin E or Aloe ranges, or if you have oily or combination skin, a foam wash is best.

STEP 2. MASK & EXFOLIATE

A mask is a great way to deeply cleanse and purify your skin, and regular exfoliation is key to maintaining the appearance of smoother skin. Aim to mask or exfoliate at least once a week.

STEP 3. TONE

Add a toner to refresh and hydrate the skin, removing last traces of cleanser and impurities and prep the skin for the next step of your routine, allowing for better absorption of your treatment or moisturiser.

STEP 4. MOISTURISE

All skin types need daily moisturising to keep skin feeling smoother and hydrated. If you have oily skin, you can use a lightweight daily moisturiser that won’t make your skin feel greasy or oily.
