What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year in the USA (recently adopted by businesses in the UK) and is held on the last Friday in November after Thanksgiving.
Although not officially recognised as a holiday, many American workers take the day off to do their Christmas shopping and make the most of the generous discounts and promotions offered by retailers. There are many different theories around where the term ‘Black Friday’ comes from, but the most likely is that it was coined in 1961 by police officers in Philadelphia due to the thick smog and traffic pollution caused by the hoardes of shoppers.
Luckily, the following Monday (known as Cyber Monday) offers similar deals online for a more comfortable shopping experience!
