OUR REFILL PROGRAM

“Why waste a container when you can refill it? And why buy more of something than you can use? We behaved as my mother did in the Second World War, we reused everything, we refilled everything, and we recycled all we could (...) The foundation of The Body Shop's environmental activism was born out of ideas like these" - Anita Roddick, Body & Soul

About our refill scheme

ABOUT OUR REFILL PROGRAM

Let's clean up our act to clean up the planet. And it starts with a refill revolution. We’ve rolled out refill stations across 400 of our stores globally throughout 2021 and we are launching a further 400 in 2022. Check out our store finder below to find your nearest refill store. Pop in, pick up an aluminum bottle and refill, reuse, repeat.1

We want to empower you to embrace the circular economy and help eliminate waste. So, we’re making our closest zero waste packaging choice as easy, convenient and accessible as possible. And together, each of our small acts can make a big difference. Switch to refill and collectively we could save over 25 tonnes of plastic.2 And refilling isn’t just better for the planet – it’s better for your wallet too, because you get more bang for your buck (each refill contains an extra 50ml free!). Find your nearest store below and join the refill revolution. There’s no time to waste.

How do I clean my bottle?

HOW DO I CLEAN MY BOTTLE?

Before refilling in store, even with the same scent, ensure your bottle is clean and dry to keep your next refill fresh. Here's how to do it:

  1. Rinse your bottle and the pump in lukewarm water until visibly clean. Shake to loosen any stubborn bits.
  2. Half fill your bottle with water and pump it out through the pump.
  3. Finish with one last rinse using cooled, boiled water.
  4. Leave to completely dry.

What will I be doing for the planet?

WHAT WILL I BE DOING FOR THE PLANET?

It’s a simple switch that saves a whole lot of plastic. Because when you refill, you throw away less – and it starts with one bottle to replace them all. We’re closing the loop on waste and giving you more ways to shop the products you love, without the wasteful packaging. And with our global footprint, each of our small acts can make a big difference. Make the switch to refill and together we could save over 27 tons of plastic per year. We’re constantly working towards clever ways to empower people and the planet, so have a peep at how we’re sourcing ethically and sustainably, reviewing our packaging and rolling up our sleeves to help clean up our planet.

Make the switch to refill and together we could save over 25 tonnes of plastic.2

1. At selected stores. Refill product availability varies.
2. Calculation is based on 20 months’ forecasted sales (for the period from April 2021 to December 2022) from 800 stores, of refillable products being repurchased in refillable instead of non-refillable 250ml variants.

HOW TO RECYCLE AT HOME

Here’s a handy guide on how to recycle our products packaged in plastic.

RECYCLE AT HOME

Try to recycle as much as you can at home. Larger single material items can be recycled at home like glass and plastic jars, plastic bottles and aluminum packaging, as well as gift packaging made of card. Still unsure which beauty packaging your local recycling scheme can’t take? Just contact your local council to find out what you can recycle at home or in your local area.

Recycling Guidelines

Empty your container and separate the elements if they are made from different materials, if lids are made of the same materials as the container, leave the lids screwed on to make sure they are not filtered out in the recycling process due to their size.

The plastics marked 1-PET, 2-HDPE and 5-PP are commonly recycled. For others you need to be a little more cautious.

BRING TO SPECIAL DROP OFF POINTS

For hard to recycle items that your local recycling scheme can’t take such as pesky pumps, plastic pouches and pipettes, small bottles that are less than 50ml, lip gloss tubes and mascaras, seek out a local drop-off point.
