“Oily skin types produce excess sebum, leaving skin looking and feeling greasy, shiny, and blemish- prone. People with oily skin report that their skin gets oily just a couple hours after cleansing, and that their makeup never stays put. They often feel the need to wash their face in the middle of the day, and use a hefty dose of blotting papers and powders to mask the shine.
Combination skin is oily in the traditional T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) whilst being normal or even dry on the cheeks. People with combination skin may need to use a variety of products to address the two types of skin found on their faces.”
“Oily skin is largely hereditary — thanks mum and dad! – but it can affect almost everyone to a degree during puberty when hormones cause sebum production to rev up. Women may experience additional fluctuations in oil production due to their hormone levels being influenced by medications, pregnancy, and later menopause. Exercising may increase androgen levels, which can lead to more sebum production and oilier skin as well.”
“Be careful not to over-cleanse your skin: twice a day is enough. Although it may be tempting to use alcohol-based toners and astringents to achieve a dry, tight feeling on your skin, stripping away too much of your natural oils can actually cause your skin to compensate and produce more oil!”
“Oily skin does not come from eating oily foods, but it’s good for your overall wellbeing to follow a nutritious diet that is high in vegetables and fruits and balanced in protein and carbohydrates. Experiment by cooking with “good” oils like coconut oil, olive oil, and flax seed oil.”

“Oily skin can still be flaky and dry in areas – this is true when oily skin has been over- cleansed or if you have combination type skin. Although oily skin types can skip a heavy moisturiser, using a lightweight moisturising serum, gel or lotion to targeted dry areas is recommended.
Oily skin can also be sensitive; in this case it is best to stick with cleansers and moisturisers in the sensitive skin ranges that contain aloe, camomile, and almond milk and honey. Choose gentle yet effective cleansers and lightweight moisturisers to achieve clean, hydrated skin.”
