HOW CAN POLLUTION AFFECT YOUR SKIN?
Pollution isn’t just bad for general health. We’re just starting to understand the negative effect of pollution on our planet and bodies, and we know that like sun exposure, it’s causing our skin some serious problems.
Smoke, smog and sunlight can create ‘free radicals’; age-accelerating particles that sap the skin’s natural ability to act as a protective barrier. Exposure to pollution can weaken the skin, leading it to appear dull, fragile and lacking in radiance. But for us city-dwellers, it’s tough to avoid.
Particularly if you live in a high-pollution area, thorough daily cleansing is vital. Help keep skin healthy and hydrated with our anti-pollution skincare routine.
Hard water contains chemicals, like calcium and magnesium, which may irritate the skin by disrupting the balance of your natural barrier. This can deplete moisture and nourishment, leaving skin dry, unprotected and exposed to UV radicals and external elements.
When the body is stressed it becomes tense and absorbs less water, vitamins and vital nutrients, which can result in dehydrated, depleted skin in need of vitality. It can also affect our hormonal balance by exacerbating the production of sebum, which can result in blemishes and breakouts.
Using your computer for 8+ hours each day can strain your eyesight, which can increase tiredness and tension. Try turning down the brightness of your screen and resting your eyes regularly throughout the day and during lunchtimes.
Wholefoods high in antioxidants, like avocados, artichokes and acai berries, help your skin defend against free radicals. Staying hydrated is also important. Drink 1-2 litres of water each day to keep mind, body and metabolism in optimal condition.
Our creamy and cooling Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask deeply purifies and exfoliates skin to remove any build-up of city pollutants. Facial and Body Care Expert, Vanda Serrador, shows us how to reveal radiant younger-looking skin in her anti-pollution face mask tutorial.
After cleansing, apply an even layer of our Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask to clean, dry skin using our Facial Mask Brush. Use a circular motion to ensure every bit of your skin is covered.
Leave for 5-10 minutes and relax!
Remove the mask with a soft cloth soaked in warm water.
For added exfoliation, wet your fingertips and gently rub the mask in circular motions before rinsing.
Choose a toner for your skin type to remove any last traces of mask and help tighten your pores.
