A conventional disposable pad can take up to 500 years to decompose. Studies have shown that most people will continue to use the same sanitary product that they were introduced to in early puberty. Because education about periods and reproduction usually only includes education around disposable menstrual products, this means most people use disposable period products throughout their lives.

ABOUT SUSTAINABLE PERIOD PROJECT

The Sustainable Period Project aims to ensure all menstruating persons under the age of 25 in Australia know about sustainable period product options by 2025. The project offers teachers all the resources they need in order to educate and give confidence to students to explore sustainable options in a period-positive environment.

The Sustainable Period Project aims to provide a free educational resource kit to every Australian school by 2025.

Free resources are available online and each Sustainable Period Project kit contains:

USB with presentations and notes, quizzes, activities, handouts and video
Samples of biodegradable disposable pads, 1 x menstrual cup, 1 pair of period underwear, 1 x reusable cloth pad
Booklet about menstruation
